The King of Nomoni. He is often called Mevali Hound 1 or just MH1 because the Mevali Hounds love him. He looks after everyone and everything in the land of Nomoni. MH1 also cares very much about the world and all the hurting people and animals living there.

The king's son. He is often called Mevali Hound 2 or just MH2 because the Mevali Hounds love him too. He worries about the world, especially the young people and all their problems.

Queen Shai-Dora is the queen of the Mevali Hounds. She is life-linked (that's like being married in Nomoni-speak) to the Lord of the Hope Clouds. MH1 gave her the Mevali Hounds on their special linking day. The king and his son also gave her the Gemma Garden of peace and happiness. Later, MH2 gave her the Gemma Bridge and the Twisted Silk Gates that keep everything bad outside of the garden.

Lazuli, the blue princess and Perido, the green princess. These are Shai-Dora's beautiful daughters. They are so pretty but they are strong too and fought in the battle for Nomoni. They are not really blue or green but Lazuli brings blue to the rivers and waters of the Gemma Garden and Peridot grows and picks the green herbs of the garden. Lazuli has dark hair and always dresses in blue. Peridot has fair hair and dresses in green.

Lord of the Hope Clouds. He sends out these special clouds and if you can catch a ride on one you can see the Mevali Hounds and what happens to them in the future and the past and all times in between.

The Mevali Hounds. The beautiful and magical dog-like creatures who live in Nomoni. They are tall and thin (but not skinny!) and have fur on their earflaps so long it sweeps down to the ground. Their tails are super-long too, fanning out behind them like those trailing wedding dresses some brides wear. They spend all day making sweet dream cushions and sewing joy pillows for the Dark Night Angels to take down to the Low World at night. Hounds are hunting dogs but Mevali Hounds only hunt out happiness and chase away bad dreams. Each one wears a badge with the logo 'Mevalis Just Care' stamped on the front.

High Princess Moona Catriona and High Prince Flavian. These were the first Mevali Hounds sent from Nomoni to help bring joy and sweet dreams to the world. They are usually just called Caty and Flavy. Caty's fur is the colour of moonlight and Flavy is sun-golden all over.

The Dark Night Angels: Dusk, Twilight, Starlight, Moonbeam and Midnight. They work very hard at night to catch the pillows and cushions tossed down from Nomoni but one day some of the Mevali Hounds weresent to help them. Each Dark Angel has some coloured feathers on their wings. Dusk has some rosy-brown ones, Starlight and Moonbeam are sort of tawny -orange - these 3 are soft and gentle colours but Twilight has feathers that flash with bright emerald-green and Midnight is the leader and feather-flashed with deep purple.

The Mission Mevali Hounds. These are the ones sent down to help all the unhappy young people in the world. Some were born there. They are always hunted by the evil Skilverino and his band of Skorcers and skounds but the Gemma Garden is their safe place where nothing can hurt them.Their stories are written in the books of Nomoni.

The Rebels

Skilverino: Like Shai-Dora he is not a hound but was once the most beautiful and clever Mevali in all the land of Nomoni. Some of the Mevali hounds followed him around all the time and he got it into his head he would like to be king. There was a great battle (you can read about it in the Nomoni books). Skilverino and the unfaithful hounds were defeated and booted out of Nomoni into the Low World. They lost their GemDust on the way and became cold and thin. Skilverino was still clever and found an ugly bunch of hunters called Skorcers who trained the poor rebel M hounds (the scorcers) to hunt for anything out of Nomoni to steal back GemDust and make them warm and powerful again. Lillian's M Hounds always have to look out for them and get to the safety of the Gemma Garden at night. The Garden is protected by the Bridge and the Twisted Silk Gates, watched over by MH2 and Queen Shai-Dora.

The Willicit: The supreme cat of Nomoni who fell with the rebels as Skilverino grabbed her as he fell. She wanted to return to Nomoni but she had not fought with the king so she had to prove herself worthy. The Willicit is now a powerful enemy of Skilverino.
